Optical Engineer Intern

By making the necessary characterization set-ups, your work directly contributes to helping us design a greenhouse coating with an optimal impact.

Full-time · Delft

Join today, shape tomorrow.

This is just the beginning and we want you to be a part of it.

We are a technology company from Delft, engineering coating, solar and sensor solutions for the global energy transition. Across all these solutions, we consistently aim to change the perspective on how current materials are used and implemented, as well as challenging the system innovation behind them.

PAR+ is on a mission to increase yield inside greenhouses in a sustainable manner with a revolutionary coating. This past year, we have executed our first two pilots and achieved positive results on crop quality and crop growth. By converting UV light to photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) as well as altering the light entry condition, we can increase the yield of a greenhouse by as much as 7.5% annually.

We are continuously improving our coating design parameters where maximized crop yield can be reached. In order to test and verify our coatings, we design and build the optical characterization tools ourselves. You will be helping us bridge the theory to actual coating deposition and characterization with our Optics Engineer and Chemical Engineer. Your work will also contribute to the ongoing collaboration we have with TU Delft.

What you’ll be doing?

  • Conduct routine experiments to optically characterize our coatings.

  • Design and build new optical characterization tools.

  • Test and verify the optical characterization tools' reliability and reproducibility.

Who we’re looking for:

  • You are approaching the end of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical oriented education, such as (but not limited to) optical engineering, applied physics, or mechanical engineering.

  • You are fluent with English (both written and spoken)

  • You have a hands-on attitude with experiences in instrument automation.

  • You have a self-starting mentality and like to explore ways to improve

  • You can work in a diverse team with multiple backgrounds

  • Experience with pyVisa, LabView, Arduino is a plus

What you can expect?

  • Be part of a growing organization, with the mission to positively contribute towards the world's food security and for a healthier planet.
  • Focus on your personal development.
  • We care for your wellbeing. From Monday bootcamp sessions with the team to unlimited consults at OpenUp platform to support you in your mental health.
  • A diverse and inclusive environment, with 12 different nationalities, where you can express your opinion and share new ideas.
